Lots of folk write and ask me for advice, instructions and general information. I decided that I would put a place on the internet that allows them to visit and see what mischief I am (or have been) up to. Hopefully it will be appreciated - please feel free to press Ctrl + End and go to the bottom of this page and give me some feedback. If you think that it is worth it, please tell your friends, if not, please tell me - thank you.

It is my intention to add something here every 7 to 10 days - the most recent stuff will always be at the top of the page to save you time. My policy and techniques for removing stuff from the bottom - there will only ever be two weeks information shown in this page. At the bottom there will be a link to an index of earlier pages. This way, it will stop the page from becoming too long and unwieldy !

Feedback
It would be really good if every visitor to it, took a few seconds to invite a few friends to visit it please - thank you.

There has been no feedback from two organisations about whom I wrote last week - Welcome Break and Premier Lodges - I did tell them about the comments. I guess that I should not have bothered, it seems that they are not interested in what their customers think !!

By the way did you take a look at a new site that I created - www.peterbyers.com ? There have been quite a few visitors and a small amount of feedback. Please pop in and let me know what you think - thank you.

This weeks purchase
I thought that I might indulge myself in a little Hedonism (click here to see what it means - I'm not trying to insult your intelligence, but even though I use the word, Im never too sure of its meaning !!)
I read a review about a WebCam Creative Labs PC-Cam 600 it looked very interesting, even a bit exciting. They are really nice things, you can make a short video and email it to friends and family. You could make a long video and put it on a CD and send it (or them) through the mail. Hedonistic maybe    !!!
I looked at a technical specification by courtesy of Amazon - that excited me even more.
You may remember that I told you that a new PC World store had opened near me, well I went to see if they had any in stock. Sadly they didn't. They did stock Creative Labs PC-Cam 300. Not much difference but I had set my heart on a 600 - maybe I will buy it from Amazom. If I do, I will tell you later.

Not being one to waste a journey, I had a wander around. You guessed it - I bought something . . . .
I bought a scanner. It cost fifty quid. It is a Packard Bell Diamond 1200. If you are prepared to be aware that you get what you pay for, then it is an AMAZING bit of kit. It is so so so simple to use. It is as light as a feather. It very thin and just a bit bigger than an A4 sheet of paper. It has no power connection, it connects to the computer via a USB port, from whence it derives its power.
Anyone that has a computer with a USB port would be totally crackers to buy a FAX machine when there is kit like this available. (Even without a USB port, a scanner connected to the parallel port is a good way for FAXing !!)
I have a simple test for a scanner, that is to test is 3 dimensional capabilities. I have somewhere a brilliant picture of a bunch of grapes done by a scanner (sadly I cannot find it). So I dusted down a great old scanner that I bought years ago - it is a Memorex SCF9360P - connected it to an ancient PC, threw my watch and some pens etc on it. The result - not very good - is shown below.

The new one failed to get any pic from the same sort of test piece. But it is certainly OK for images on sheets of paper.

Links
I was describing myself for a semi official reason and was asked to give my weight. I told them the answer in Stones but they asked for it in Kilos. Sadly neither of us knew what the conversion was. Then by accident, I found a site that is really useful. It is A Dictionary of Measures, Units and Conversions

You will know that I live and die by Copernic for finding things on the internet. Well I fell across a search engine - it is really clean and simple. It may be worth your time to have a look. It is www.wisenut.com

If you really really want to spoil yourself - or even spoil a friend - you could buy a custom Aluminium case. Any size, any pattern, any colour. They are really useful, they make you really proud to be carrying one. They are also fit for their purpose. Photographic Equipment, Computer Equipment, Tools, Portfolios - the limit is your imagination. I am even thinking of having some sandwich boxes made for Christmas presents. It is Aluminium Case Company Ltd.. Think about it, have a look, spoil yourself !! Tell Paul that you saw it here.

Recommendations
You may remember a few weeks ago I mentioned Upholstery and Suites of furniture. Well I will refresh your memory. I have a four piece suite that was built about a hundred years ago. No such thing as foam in those days. Coil spring interiors, in the cushions, arms and backs - if fact all over.
Upholsterers that are capable of re-upholstering such a suite are rare. Of those that can, the ones that are interested are a bit like hens teeth - difficult to find. And anyone interested talks in telephone numbers as far as the price is concerned.
Well I found one - the job was done very fast, very well and just a bit more than half the price of any other folk. I really really do recommend them - thank you Nobby !!
If you have any such work needs doing, it could even be worth paying to have it transported, even a fair distance, to get a good job done.

I was driving slowly along the road minding my own business when this low wall jumped up and threw itself into the side of my motor car. I had not had a drink, honest guv. I tried to exchange details with it but it just sat there acting dumb, just like walls do.
I took it (the car) the a friend of mine that happens to own the best car body repair company in west London.
They did it good. They did it fast. They did it inexpensive. What else could you ask for.
I have no hesitation in recommending them - thank you Frank.
