Lots of folk write and ask me for advice, instructions and general information. I decided that I would put a place on the internet that allows them to visit and see what mischief I am (or have been) up to. Hopefully it will be appreciated - please feel free to press Ctrl + End and go to the bottom of this page and give me some feedback. If you think that it is worth it, please tell your friends, if not, please tell me - thank you.

It is my intention to add something here every 7 to 10 days - the most recent stuff will always be at the top of the page to save you time. My policy and techniques for removing stuff from the bottom - there will only ever be two weeks information shown in this page. At the bottom there will be a link to an index of earlier pages. This way, it will stop the page from becoming too long and unwieldy !

General
Its a bit late this week - Saturday, rushing around doing something or other - yesterday, my birthday, spent the day not doing much, trying to forget that it was that day - hehehehe.

If you are wanting to have some work done to your property and don't know of a good tradesman to do it, visit www.improveline.com - several folk I know have used it to find someone and said that it is good. (It is UK wide)

A normally sedate and "proper" friend of my told me about a web page - you might think it a bit crude - it seemed a bit bland to me and only raised a bit if a smile. It is fartsfartsfarts.com. (A flash file !!)

I visited a page that took me back to being a young child for several minutes - it was spell-binding - really lovely - worth the time that it took me to get it. It is Bella the Dragon in SVG. It uses a technology called SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) - if you are interested, you can look at Byers "none-tech" description of SVG

Driving !
On Tuesday, I drove a friend to a hospital near Sissinghurst in Kent. On Thursday, I fetched them back. Two four hour round trips. The journey from Junction 5 on the M25 to Sissinghurst (via the A21 and A262) was quite wonderful - turned the journey from a chore into a real joy. The views of what I believe to be the Wield of Kent were absolutely spectacular. I have made a mental note on paper to remind me to have a wander around that area at my liesure sometime.

Wall Plaques
I am reasonably well known for having pet sayings that I use to death for a week or two before getting a new one. One day recently I was sitting scratching my bum and thinking about nothing in particular - when my brain was disturbed by an idea !! It was to put some of my sayings on "Wall Plaques"

So I did - the one for this week is strength

I will publish new ones occasionally.

I thought that I would change the style and see how it looked - so instead of the bold clunky black, it is now a more delcate, gently reddish colour. Please pop down to the bottom and let me know what you think, thank you in advance (I hope -     !! )

Car is still in the Coachworks. The insurance company is dragging its feet a bit (because I chose not to go to their repairer - I think) - but it is in good hands !! The courtesy car is a Nissan Micra. It is causing a few double takes when folk that know me see me in it rather than the Volvo that I usually drive. But, maybe surprisingly, I find it rather OK, it gets me from "A to B" - that is all that matters.

The annual Rickmansworth Canal ++ festival is on this weekend. I visited yesterday - quite enjoyable and interesting - saw lots of old freinds. If you live near enough to visit, it is worth a trip.

On Thursday (or was it Wednesday ??) evening, Nobby Carpenter of the upholsterers - (see the recommendation) called round to deliver some new cushions to go into my cushion covers, to make the cushions look OK with my new suite. I tried to put one into the cover - I didn't think I could ever be as useless as I was at doing that simple task (but they were a tight fit - hehehehe). Suddenly Nobby turned into a "whirling dervish", hands and arms moving at the speed of light. In no time at all, all ten cushions were done !!
What a joy to see a real craftsman at work ! Thank you Nobby.

Feedback
I would really love it if you could find it in your hearts to invite some of your freinds, aquaintances etc about "Writings" / "ChitChat" - it would be good to have some more visitors !!

Byers Websites
www.textsafe.com is one of my web sites, it is free, quite a few folk are using it and finding it useful (have a look, subscribe, free, easy). It has been enhanced....

Several folk have asked for it.
    We listened.
    We did it.
The folk that have tried it are very very complimentary
       about it.
Sign in and have a look at it !!

You will be aware that it has been possible to store Mailing
Lists in TextSafe (and send EMail to those Lists) for a long
time.

That is good if you want to use lists more than once !!

As a result of your requests, we have provided a feature that
allows you to send to lists containing between one and fifty
(ish) destinations without saving the lists on TextSafe.

Just three things to provide -

The List;
The Subject;
The message.

Several folk have tried it, they seem over the moon about it!
It is amazing how some of the best things are so simple.
Each Mail is send individually - no chance of your Mailing List being "harvested" for use by Spammers

Why don't you have a look - send yourself a trial EMail from it !!

This weeks hotel
Well last weeks really. You may recall that I went to a show at the Sheffield Area last week, it seemed sense to stay overnight rather than doing a late night journey home. The place we ended up at is described below

The Royal Victoria Holiday Inn.,
Victoria Station Road
Sheffield
West Yorkshire
S4 7YE
Telephone 0114 - 276 8822
FAX 0114 - 272 4519
Nice pleasant, freindly staff.

Impressive old building, very spacious

Struggled a little bit to find it - Sheffield's streets are a real "rabbit warren" - maybe it was just me, Car Accident - hassle at the Sheffield Arena !!!

Checked in - rooms OK

Went down to bar for some food (only place open for food) - I really do not like "knife and fork" eating of low "coffee tables" (but never mind, it does not affect the food). On the menu was Fillet Steak with mushrooms and onions in Soft dough bread (what is soft dough bread ??)

We ordered Fillet Steak with mushrooms and onions with chips and no garnish. One well done and one cremated. Several staff spent what felt like ages debating which menu it could be done from. Irritation, shortness of time, and hunger caused me to draw myself to my full height and find the Duty Manager and ask if the cooking and the debate could proceed in parallel - it did, she was very understanding, helpful and efficient.

When the food arrived, it was good and both plates were cleared. We will not mention the fact that it was rump steak and certainly was NOT cremated. I guess we didn't care, any food would have sufficed !!

The next event was breakfast - quite good for a self service setup. But the glasses for cold fruit juice were hot and the plates for a hot breakfast were stone cold. But we ate it and enjoyed it !!

Not the best or least expensive hotel that I have ever stayed in but I would probably use it again if I needed to stay in Sheffield

I am in the process of setting up a new site, www.goodnesschart.com please have a look and comment if you wish. Did you have a look at it - it is looking good ?

One of the users has said the she is happy for me to tell you about two of her pages - do please have a look at them
www.goodnesschart.com/alex.htm
and

I found a very entertaining web site The Incredible Dr. Busker, The last Victorian Pub Pianist. - it is quite interesting. If you like Scot Joplin click on "Music" the one in the middle is real good ! By the way, the music does not work for me using Explorer, but it does in Netscape    !!

If you are interested in seeing the stages of a NarrowBoat being home built, Click here. It is a real eye opener.

I fell across a site on the internet that I hope to visit in real life soon - click here. It says "Bush Hall - Luxury hotel facilities in Hertfordshire UK" - I wonder if it really does provide luxury ?
