Those of you that read ByersBlog will be aware that I had trouble with one of my laptops. It was no small job to re-assemble the files that I most needed.
An external hard drive has been purchased, Now how do I keep its contents up to date. I hunted around for "Mirroring" and or "Synchonisation" software.
The free stuff was not easy enough for simple me to use. The stuff that I liked, cost money.
The one that I liked best was called ViceVersa it is not to difficlt to use and it does what I want it to do.
When the 'Free Trial' period runs out, I have to pay to register it.
I thought 'I could write something to do it' - so I did.
It aint as elegant as ViceVersa, but it does what I want it to do.
Then I thought 'I could share it' - so I am !!
A ZIP file was created. If you have the software to UnZip it, use that one.
For those folks that cannot unzip it, use an EXE file.
When you have access to the files that have been uncompressed, you have a choice of two ways to go.
- Double Click on 'SyncDev.vbs', or
- Double Click on 'SyncFolders.exe'
(ignore the licensing 'nag' - if sufficient folks ask me, I will license the 'VBS to EXE' convertor).
Your AntiVirus software will undoubtedly complain - it is safe to tell it that it is OK to run !!
If you get lots of PopUps about Errors, then you need to install some clever WSH software.
Double Click on 'setup.exe'
You will then be able to find a file called 'setup.vbs' - double click on it - when it is completed, you will be able to run the software that I produced.
If you get stuck, please do not hesitate to ask me for assistance.
