In this page there are links to some examples of code. Hopefully they may be useful to some folk but if not that, at the very least interesting

Generally, these snippets have been tried and found to work with Internet Explorer version 5+

Sometimes they will work with other browsers - but that is not guaranteed - if you need help to "generalize" the code - make the request in the box at the bottom of the page - give your name and EMail in the box too !!

Some work best in 1024 x 768 monitors - but don't be afraid to try them in smaller ones.

When you have looked, if you are interested, View the Source to see how it is done.

More links will be added as they occur.

Things for processing on the Client
I wanted some special buttons in a web page.
There are lots of packages that do this sort of thing
BUT
I am too mean to buy such packages
AND
They make my old befuddled head hurt when I try to use them !!

So I played and made some buttons of my own !!

Somefolk that I met asked about how to make "drag and drop" work on a browser. The answer is of course JavaScript. I had a page on which I had just thrown a few interesting bits and bobs, there is not much rhyme or reason to it, but it does demonstrate dragging ! Here it is!. Have a look at the source - it is not very elegant or commented - but it works !!

Once again the phrase "Limited by your Imagination" comes to mind !!

Do you know how powerful the use of JavaScript makes a Browser ? The answer is "extremely" Here is a simple example. It is "A-Maze-ing". Have a look at the source - it is not very elegant or commented - but it works !!

The phrase "Limited by your Imagination" comes to mind !!

While I was creating a set of training pages, I used a technique that seemed like a method that could be of interest to other folk. It does not use any terribly clever, obscure or novel code - just well tried and tested code (maybe in an unusual way!!). here is the example.

N O T E The backward and forward links DO NOT work

If you have very long pages that you (or the clients) do not like having to scroll on, you might like to consider having a tabbed page. here is a simple example.
I screwed up an a demo that I provided in that it just arbitarily changed the browser Window Size !!

I did not realise it at the time but I could have told folk to "Restore Down" (or Un-Maximise) and then to just drag the window to the size that they want - but never mind Eh !!

It seemed like a good idea to provide a Demo Page that deals with Browser Window size and position. I have done this and it is at:-
testing/window-resize-demo.htm.

I hope that in some small way this atones for my "screw up" and maybe the page is useful for you.

A chap I know (called John Creed) asked a question about passing parameters to JavaScript functions... Click here to see my answer. It is interesting !!
I was idly browsing various JavaScripts and found a couple to show to some of my students.
They may be of interest to you.
The scripts may be useful in themself
BUT
the use that I will put them to is to get the students to disect the code and by so doing, learn!

They are:-
