SpellChecked and re-posted in deference to the learned William H Presley !!

This page tells the story of some technology that has completely changed my way of life!!

I have taken the trouble to explain it because 'dim old me' did not really understand it to start with.

Most communications and interactions with the Internet involve you starting a browser program on your PC and typing the addresses of things that you want to look at. By which means you get stuff from the Internet.

Well someone had the great idea of persuading lots of folks, organisations, companies etc to publish Headlines relating to new information that they have made available in Web Pages on the Internet. (They call them NewsFeeds)

All manner of subjects are covered by such NewsFeeds - not just headlines from Newspapers, but sport, computer hardware and software - you name it and it is likely to be in the list.

Then a clever group of folks wrote a really useful program called a FeedReader.
Now for how you do it !!

First

Be connected to the internet and have the program running
and then . . . . .

In the Navigation Frame on the left of the Window, open the folder called "Available Feeds"
and then . . . . .

Choose one of the sub folders and open that - I use the NewsIsFree one - but the choice is yours !!
and then . . . . .

Select one of the feeds that looks as though it might be interesting to you - that will put details of the feeds in the Top Right frame
and then . . . . .

If it looks like a Feed that will interest you, click on the Subscribe icon (or press the F9 key on your keyboard)
(by the way Usernames and passwords are not normally needed - just click on 'Next')
and then . . . . .

Repeat the process as often as you like - I have Subscribed to about 60 - but - it is up to you, as many or as few as you like !!
and then . . . . .

Sit back and enjoy being spoon fed your news feeds - just remember you start the program when you Boot your PC !!

It really is A New way of Life !!

If someone tells you about their own NewsFeed (and I will tell you about mine soon) all you do is press the F2 key on your keyboard and type (or copy and paste it) into the box provided and then either subscribe to it or not as you see fit.
(by the way Usernames and passwords are not normally needed - just click on 'Next')
